Two different visits
An EICR inspects and tests the fixed electrical installation within an agreed extent, and it records the condition found. It is not arranged only to chase one symptom.
Targeted fault-finding starts from a present problem, such as a trip, a dead circuit or a fitting that has stopped working, and it looks for that cause.
An EICR is not simply a fault-finding visit. The inspection records condition across the agreed installation. Fault-finding investigates a named symptom.

Which route fits the problem
Choose an EICR when you need a condition report on the fixed installation, rather than a diagnosis of one live symptom.
Choose targeted fault-finding when a circuit, a fitting or a protective device is already misbehaving, and you need that cause found.
An EICR can still record that further investigation is needed where the inspection cannot establish the condition. That note is not the same as arriving only to find a trip.
A classification code should not be inferred from a postcode, symptom description or photograph alone. On an EICR, the inspector attributes codes from the inspection and testing evidence.
