What is tested
What does an EICR actually test?
Understand the inspection scope, any limitations and the findings recorded in an EICR before deciding what to do next.

What the inspection covers
An EICR inspects and tests the fixed electrical installation within the agreed extent.
Limitations matter because the outcome applies to what was inspected. A limitation is part of the report, not a hidden failure rate.
What it leaves out
It does not test every appliance, it does not open every concealed part, and it does not predict the next alteration.
This page states no failure percentage, no borough ranking, and no claim about how many London homes are unsatisfactory.
Appliances
Portable equipment is a different inspection from the fixed installation.
Concealed wiring
What cannot be seen is a limitation, not a statistic.
The next alteration
The report does not describe work that has not happened.
A London average
No percentage is stated here because no approved dataset is being used.
The words on the outcome
Satisfactory means the inspector recorded a satisfactory outcome for that extent. Unsatisfactory means they did not.
Observations are the items the inspector recorded, classified with the code they applied. Read the actual observations on your own report before deciding the next step.
What you do with the report
After the report, you read the outcome and the observations. Remedial work or further investigation, if required, is a later step.
The testing service
The service is EICR testing in London. Codes are the code guide. Remedial work is remedial work for an unsatisfactory report.
