Tower Hamlets licenses shared homes across the borough (additional HMO licensing, 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2029). Its selective licensing scheme for Weavers, Whitechapel and Spitalfields and Banglatown ended on 30 September 2026. The council says it is considering options for a new scheme, and licences already issued stay valid until they expire.
On the Tower Hamlets side of Tower Hill, addresses are mostly in St Katharine's & Wapping ward. Tower Hamlets Council has no selective licensing, so a home let to a single household there doesn't need one. Part of the area is in the City of London: City of London Corporation has no active selective licensing scheme in the published borough data; check HMO licensing separately. Ward boundaries don't follow postcodes, so check the exact address with the council.
